Welcome to the Preston Family Farm. We are Ken and Trish Preston and along with our 3 daughers, we are a 4th generation farm family living in Fairfield County, Ohio in the Canal Winchester area. Ken is retired and home full time now. Trish works in development in support of Ohio 4-H, Extension and Agriculture at one of the largest public universities in the country as well as serves on the county farm bureau board of trustees. We both have career backgrounds working as park rangers here in Ohio and Montana. Trish also loves to sew and that’s where the handmade part of this page comes from. She has a line of sewing patterns, was honored to appear on a TV program "It's Sew Easy", and is a published author with C+T Publishing.
But, first and foremost for us is being connected to the land. Our connections to agriculture run deep and we’d love to share a bit of our story with you.
Ken’s grandfather ran a fruit stand and farmer’s market in Warren county, a connection he treasures. Lewis Webb sold farm products year round from Christmas trees to watermelons and apples. Always in his denim overalls. Ken grows a garden for us in tribute to his grandfather and that green thumb has been passed down through the generations.
Trish’s great-grandparents and grandparents on both maternal and paternal side of the family grew up running a dairy, row crop and diversified operations in Perry and Fairfield county. Trish’s Dad, Bill, finished his high school years on a small farm in New Albany, Ohio where he was in the FFA and raised a breeding flock of around 45 Shropshire sheep. This is where our family’s love of sheep was born.
We both have treasured those connections and craved that for our own family. In 1998, we were married and moved to Fairfield County where my husbands park ranger job was and purchased a house with 5 acres, a great hill for sledding, gorgeous pasture and woods along Walnut Creek. We spend a lot of time outdoors hiking and exploring the creek.
Over the years, as our 3 children have grown, their participation in 4-H has led us to raising market lambs, pygmy goats, laying hens and pastured meat chickens. We operate a direct to consumer farm market where we sell pastured free-range eggs, whole roaster chickens and other handmade goods. We grow food on a small scale and enjoy being a trusted source for our friends and neighbors.
We believe that the best way to raise kids is to give them wide open spaces to run, explore and learn how to get dirty and work hard. We believe in letting nature do what nature does best. We treat our animals with the best care and believe that healthy animals are animals who are treated like part of our family. We believe that life is too short to not do what makes you happy and being outside, caring for the land and these animals, makes us happy and makes the people who visit us happy too.
We give thanks to the many customers who trust us to provide them with great tasting pastured poultry products. Part of our mission is to give back as a way to invest in the future of sustainable agriculture through our youth. Every month, we give generously to support our local food bank, Ohio 4-H youth development programs, and students at The Ohio State University in the School of Environment and Natural Resources. Your purchases help us help these programs we believe in.
Thanks for being a friend of Preston Family Farms.
